Collecting and Submitting Data
Producers, or their schemes, should provide data to the relevant agency.
The data enables the agency to allocate separately collected WEEE, according to each of the ten product categories listed in Annex IA of the WEEE Directive. The Government is obliged to report on this basis to the European Commission.
Producers are required to report data on:
- The categories of electrical and electronic equipment (as defined in the WEEE Directive) that have been put onto the market in the UK. There will be 13 categories for reporting.
- The weight of the electrical and electronic products put onto the market in the UK.
The weight of products that businesses put onto the UK market is reported to the agencies and used for its calculation of market shares in order to determine allocations of WEEE.
Importers are obliged to report data on electrical and electronic equipment they put onto the UK market and distance sellers are obliged to provide the same data in respect of their exports to other Member States as well as sales into the UK market.
The data is provided on a confidential basis. It is available to the agencies but will not be made available to third parties. Government is obliged to report aggregated data, by product category, to the European Commission.
Knowingly providing false data is an offence.
Note: Registered producers whose sales are to business users will be subject to obligations in relation to business-to-business WEEE. |
