Actions for complying with WEEE / Registering as a Producer

Registering as a Producer

The WEEE Directive requires producers to register in order to put electrical and electronic equipment within the scope of the Directive onto the market. It is an offence not to register.

Registration is with the relevant enforcement agencies. A standard registration form will be specified and the register will be available for public inspection. If a producer belongs to a compliance scheme, the scheme must register all its members. Distance-sellers legally established in the UK are also required to register.

Producers are to renew their registrations at the start of each compliance period (before 31st January). There will be a registration fee payable on each renewal.

The following Information is required:

  • 1 The address and telephone number of the producer and;

  • (a) The registered office, where the producer is a company.
  • (b) The principal place of business, where the producer is not a company.
  • 2 The business name of the producer if different from that referred to in item 1.

  • 3 The address for service of notices on the producer if different from that referred to in item 1.

  • 4 The details of the person to whom the Secretary of State may address communications.
